My Blogger Friend: Mia from Roses for Fridays/Importance of Spreading Love

by Lauren Corbett

Hi Everyone!

Before I took a mini break from The Fashtorious L.A.C., I made a blogger friend named Mia. I came across Mia’s blog, Roses for Fridays, while I was scrolling through the comments on Helena Glazer Hodne’s fashion blog, Brooklyn Blonde. I spotted Mia’s comments on a few of Brooklyn Blonde’s blog posts, so I decided to view her website out of curiosity. When I landed on her home page, I was amazed by all of the paintings that were featured (she creates her own paintings). Since this caught my eye, I decided to delve deeper into her website, particularly her blog section. Her blog section is filled with uplifting posts. The "Be Your Own Kind of Blogger Beautiful” post is one of my favorites. Mia is a fashion blogger, but she does not consider herself as the “typical fashion blogger.” I found this really refreshing about her. I wanted to compliment her on her website, so I sent her a message. She replied to my message and thanked me for complimenting her blog. As a thank you to me, she wanted to paint a picture of me, so I sent her one of the very first pictures that I took for this blog (shown below).

I wanted to write this blog post not just to thank Mia for the beautiful painting, but to stress the importance of spreading love as well. I understand that it is easy for us (especially creatives) to get caught up in our own world and wanting to be the best in our field, but it is important to reach out to those in your industry as well. It does not hurt to take a few minutes out of your day to compliment someone on their craft whether he or she is in your industry or not. You will gain more when you focus on spreading love rather than competition and your social media following.

To Mia — Thank you again for your painting and I look forward to reading more of your posts. :)
