Fashtoriously Two

by Lauren Corbett

Today marks the 2 year anniversary of this blog, The Fashtorious L.A.C. The beginning of this blog is so important to me because it is when I officially let go of my inhibitions.

Although my blog was launched in 2017, the ideation of it was in 2014. Between those three years, I was hesitant to show the world what I created. Also, I was a perfectionist (still am) who felt that maybe my blog wasn’t “professional” enough. All of these worries that I had about my blog went out the window when I was told that I wasn’t “on brand” by an editor of an online fashion publication for college students.

The publication was used to seeing young women with a cookie-cutter, Taylor Swift sense of style. What they weren’t used to seeing was a black woman (a curvy black woman) in a black one-piece swimsuit. I could have been that cookie-cutter girl that they were looking for, but honestly, my style is pretty versatile. One day, I could be wearing a pink dress because I feel cutesy. Next day, I could be athletic and wear a DKNY Sport outfit with sneakers. Another day, I might want to feel glamorous and sexy, so I would wear some type of fur with gold accessories and thigh high boots.

The editor’s comment lit a fire under me, which ultimately caused me to reveal my brand, style, and creativity to the world.

During these two years, I’ve gone through a lot. From college, graduation, heartbreak, rejection, promotion, and etc. Also, I’ve grown immensely. I’ve found my voice and purpose. I am happy that I am on track to becoming the woman I’ve always wanted to be.

I want to thank those who keep coming to my blog to see/read my latest entries and those who support me on social media and in real life.

I want to give a special thank you to my mother who is my inspiration and photographer for all of my blog pictures. I love you Mommy! :)

Fashtoriously,

Lauren Ashley Corbett

Business Resolutions for 2019

by Lauren Corbett

Tomorrow is officially the start of 2019! 2018 was filled with personal and professional growth for me. There are personal New Year’s resolutions that I have ALREADY started before the new year, but I do not want to talk about that today. I want to talk the business resolutions that I have in place for 2019. These are particularly related to my brand, The Fashtorious L.A.C.

  1. CONSISTENCY: In 2019, I would like to be more consistent with my blog. In 2018, I took a seven month break from my blog as you all know, but I do not want to do that again. I feel that if I want to be successful with my brand, I have to continue to create, promote, and evolve! Therefore, this year I will focus a lot on being consistent. I want to have a new blog post at least once a week.

  2. BRANDING: More like personal branding. I love my blog name, color scheme, and etc. However, I want to stand out more, especially on social media. In order to build a stronger personal brand, I believe I need to allow myself to be more open, especially on social media. Share more of my day-to-day life. Let people see more of my personality.

  3. SOCIAL MEDIA: I really want to work on gaining more of a following on social media, particularly Instagram. Right now, I have about 304 followers and it fluctuates every day. I believe this is due to me not being consistent on that platform. Also, I do not just want more followers, but more engagement. I need to be more consistent on Instagram and ask my current followers what type of content they want me to provide for them. Social media can be really annoying to me, but in order to have a strong brand, I have to utilize it.

  4. COLLABORATIONS/SPONSORSHIPS/NEW ENTERPRISES: In 2019, I really want to start collaborating with other bloggers, stylists, and etc. Collaborations are key to gaining more exposure, networking with peers in the industry, and ultimately being successful. I have an idea on how I can start collaborating with others, but that is my little secret ;)

I would LOVE to gain a brand sponsorship. In 2018, a representative from a hotel aggregator contacted me because they wanted me to partner with them. I did not go through with this partnership due to unfamiliarity of the brand and lack of compensation. A brand that I would love to partner with is Marriott. I love staying at their nice hotels and I am a part of the Marriott Rewards program. I believe that I would be a good fit for the brand.

In addition to fashion, I am also into business! My mind is always thinking about new business ideas and this year, I want to launch them. I actually have one in the works right now ;)

What are your resolutions for 2019?

Remember Who You Are

by Lauren Corbett

This is just a reminder to remember who the hell you are. I feel that it is very important, especially for women, to remember their self-worth. Never let anyone, especially a wack dude, disrespect you in any way. That person may have a lot of good qualities, but if they continue to say or do something that bothers you (and they are aware of this) then they have no respect for you whatsoever. Stop wasting your time and breath on this person.

Also, don’t waste time on a dude who puts in little to no effort. You deserve WAY more than what he is offering you. If a guy is not going hard for you during the courting phase, then he ain’t the one for you. I’ve noticed that my generation of men (or guys I should say) expect the women to chase after them. I will not/will not chase after no dude. It’s one thing for a man to be nervous or shy around a woman. I’m not talking about those men. I’m talking about the guys who expect you to put yourself on a silver platter in the very beginning. Those who expect you to go hard for them when they haven’t done (S)ugar (H)oney (I)ce (T)ea for you. Beware of those! Do not drop your standards and do not give in to them. If they really want to be with you, then they will try to meet you where you are and understand the importance of wooing you. Understand that YOU are the prize, not him. He should be jumping through hoops to be with you, not the other way around.

So, until a man meets my standards … it’s a big, THANK U, NEXT! (Ariana Grande voice)

In terms of others, those who try to belittle you, understand that there is something wrong with them internally. They are not happy with themselves. Anyone who tries to bring you down and dim your light has a lot of insecurities that need to be dealt with. Understand that this is not your problem, so do not make it your problem.

Continue to love yourself, live your life, and secure your bag $$$

Unapologetically signed,

The Fashtorious L.A.C.
